Why was the ballpark built?

Cashman Field was state-of-the-art when it opened in 1983, but by the 2010s it had fallen far behind [1]. The new park broke ground on Feb. 13, 2018 and opened for the 2019 season [1]. The Aviators also took on their new name that year [2].
